Typhoon Ruby (international codename Hagupit) has been spotted at 1670 km East of Mindanao Wednesday morning, December 3, 2014. State weather bureau PAGASA said that as of 4 am Wednesday, Bagyong Ruby was carrying maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center (up by 60 kph from yesterday) and gusts of up to 160 kph (up by 70 kph from yesterday). It is forecast to move West Northwest at 30 kph. It is expected to enter Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Thursday morning, earlier than expected, and it will be named “Ruby”. Meanwhile, the US Navy Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) said Typhoon Ruby is expected to continue to strengthen in favorable atmospheric conditions for the next 48 hours. After that, the forecast becomes a bit fuzzy due to several factors. The storm will get stronger while it tracks to the west-northwest through Friday, then it will slow down and weaken just a bit as the rest of the scenario plays out. But the possibilities are still quite vast according to the computer model forecasts.
